At Union we teach personal practice that suits the individual, and we work at any level of yoga from the most elementary to the most advanced.
Personal practice, as its name suggests, is non-standardized and adapts yoga to the individual. Like some others, I came to this tradition because of an injury and an illness. But I stayed because of its beauty and its wide variety of practices to strengthen the body, clarify the mind, and nourish the heart. My teachers led me to gentle, deep transformations that have enriched my life and my relations with others.
Students often tell me how they appreciate these teachings, and the alert-yet-flowing awareness that distinguishes personal practice. Breathing together, we are in yoga (Sanskrit “union”) with the present moment as we discover the harmony of body, breath, and mind.
I am also grateful to Martha Jefferson Hospital, who have welcomed me as an independent studio in their Outpatient Care Center. Clinicians and administration have supported the work of the studio in order to help those patients who are open to yoga's benefits. This studio and its principle of unity is dedicated to my students, my teachers and finally to all who may benefit from the teachings. I look forward to practicing with you.
