The Effects of "Narrative Medicine"

Narrative Medicine is a new and growing field.  In recent years Columbia's Medical School has added a department and degree program in Narrative Medicine.  The healing effects of telling our story in simple, but powerful forms cannot be underestimated.  Students interested in deepening their experience of the healing and transformation from personal practice can use journaling, picture-gathering, and digital storytelling to tell their stories.  For inspiring examples of the self-empowering effects of narrative medicine, please see the Center for Digital Storytelling website, and view a story of survivorship after a cancer diagnosis.
